Bhasha teaches conversational Bangla. We designed it to collect as little as possible. Most of your learning lives on your own device and your own private iCloud, not on our servers.
1. Information we collect and why
- Account (Sign in with Apple). An Apple-provided identifier, plus your name and email if you choose to share them through Apple's sign-in. We use this to create your account, secure cloud features, and attribute any lessons you choose to share to the Community. Signing in is required only for cloud features (the Community and the cloud AI helper). The personal learning experience works fully without an account.
- Learning content you create (phrases, notes, favorites, progress). This is stored on your device and mirrored to your own private iCloud (Apple CloudKit) for backup and cross-device sync. This is your iCloud — not our servers. We cannot access it, and it is never used to train AI.
- Voice recordings (from the "Hand Off" feature). Stored on your device and in your private iCloud. To turn a recording into a lesson, the audio may be sent briefly through our secure server to an AI transcription partner. It is processed and discarded — never stored on our servers, never used to train AI, never shared, and never included in Community content, analytics, or logs.
- Community submissions. If (and only if) you choose to share a lesson, its text — the phrase, its meaning, and usage context — is sent to our servers, checked by moderation, and shown to other learners in the Community library. Text only — never your audio, your voice, or your contact details. You can withdraw a shared lesson at any time.
- Subscription (Bhasha Pro). Purchases are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. Apple sends our server notifications about your subscription status (active or expired) so we can unlock Pro for your account, linked by an app-specific account token.
- Push notifications (if you enable them). A device token, used only to deliver notifications.
2. AI processing partners (subprocessors)
We use Google (Gemini) to generate lesson text and ElevenLabs for speech-to-text and text-to-speech. We send them only the content needed for the task — for example, a phrase's text, or a short voice clip for transcription — under agreements that prohibit using your content to train their models and require limited retention.
Our backend (database, authentication, and serverless functions) is hosted on Supabase in the United States.
3. What we do NOT do
No third-party advertising. No analytics or tracking SDKs. No cross-app or cross-site tracking. We never sell or share your personal data for advertising. The app carries no tracking technologies.
4. Data retention and deletion
Your personal learning data stays on your device and in your iCloud until you delete it. Deleting the app removes the on-device data. To delete your account and cloud data, use "Delete account & all data" in the app (Profile). This deletes your server account, removes your Community contributions, and purges the copy in your iCloud.
5. Children
Bhasha is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
6. Your choices and rights
You can access or delete your data with the in-app tools above, or by emailing us. You can decline to sign in and still use the core app.
7. Changes to this policy
We'll post any changes on this page and update the effective date above.
